Special viewing of Kumiodori (Okinawan traditional dance-drama) to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the sister city agreement between Tarama Village and other cities.
We will be holding a special viewing event for "Kumiodori," a traditional Okinawan performing art that is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and a nationally designated Important Intangible Cultural Property !
Part 1 will feature Ryukyuan dance, and Part 2 will feature the Kumiodori (traditional Okinawan dance-drama) "Shushin Kaneiri." With explanations and subtitles for the dialogue , everyone can enjoy the performance .
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Miyako City and Tarama Village in Okinawa Prefecture.
To celebrate this milestone, further deepen the ties between the two regions, and provide an opportunity to widely share Okinawa's proud traditional culture, we have decided to hold this special Kumiodori (Okinawan traditional dance-drama) performance.

Kumiodori is
Kumiodori is a traditional Okinawan musical drama that combines dialogue, song, and dance. It was created in 1719, when Okinawa was still the Ryukyu Kingdom, to entertain an envoy from the Chinese emperor. Since then, it has developed and been created, incorporating elements of Japanese Noh and Kabuki, and is now carefully preserved as a nationally designated Important Intangible Cultural Property and a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
