Hanamaki City Museum Theme Exhibition 2025 "The Art of Sake Brewing – Tracing the Fine Sake of the Nanbu Toji"

Japan's "traditional sake brewing" has been recognized for its historical and cultural value and has been registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The Nanbu Toji, who played an important role in sake brewing, were born in this region, and the history of the inheritance of sake brewing techniques and the culture surrounding sake brewing will be introduced through sake brewing tools and secret books.

"Sake brewing tools of the Nanbu Toji" available for free
- Event period: Thursday, April 24, 2025 to Saturday, May 31, 2025
- Event time: 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Location: Ishidoriya History and Folklore Museum Storage Room (7-1, Nakaderabayashi 7th District, Ishidoriya-cho, Hanamaki City)
- Content: In conjunction with this thematic exhibition, the "Sake Brewing Tools of a Nanbu Toji Master Brewer," a nationally designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property held in the storage room of the currently closed Ishidoritani History and Folklore Museum, will be on display free of charge for a limited time.
Additional free sake tasting at the Nanbu Toji Heritage Museum
- Event period: Thursday, April 24, 2025 to Sunday, June 22, 2025
- Location: Roadside Station Ishidoritani Nanbu Toji Tradition Hall (17-2, Nakaderabayashi 7th District, Ishidoritani-cho, Hanamaki City)
- Details: If you are purchasing a tasting and present the stub of your exhibition admission ticket, you will receive an additional free glass in addition to the two glasses that normally cost 200 yen.

Gallery Talk
- Date and time: Sunday, May 18th, 13:30-14:00
- Location: Hanamaki City Museum Special Exhibition Room
- Application: Not required
- Cost: There is no cost to participate as this is a free day to the public in conjunction with International Museum Day.
Special Commemorative Lectures
- Date and time: Sunday, June 1st, 1:30pm-3pm
- Lecturer: Reiko Mishima (author, author of "The Origins of the Nanbu Toji")
- Title: The origins of the Nanbu Toji
- Location: Hanamaki City Museum Lecture Experience Learning Room
- Capacity: 30 people (free to attend, registration required)
- Application period: May 1st (Thursday) 8:30am – May 31st (Saturday) 4:30pm
