Kenji Miyazawa, a leading Japanese children's author and poet, created numerous wonderful works.
In Hanamaki, Kenji's hometown, the "Ihatov Festival" is held every year. It brings together a diverse group of guests from various fields, including creators and artists who are inspired by his works, to enjoy a connection with Kenji's world through talks, live performances, and video works.
The "Ihatov Festival" was started in 2014 when the late Isao Takahata, director of Studio Ghibli, who directed the animated film "Gauche the Cellist" based on Kenji Miyazawa's original work and produced numerous works that deeply resonated with Miyazawa's spirit, endorsed its purpose.
This year, in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of Kenji Miyazawa's birth, the festival will consist of a variety of special programs celebrating the occasion, including a screening of Isao Takahata's masterpiece "Pom Poko," as well as talks and live performances featuring artists and creators who have appeared at the festival in the past.
Enjoy a special time amidst the fantastical light of the illuminated art installations at Miyazawa Kenji Fairy Tale Village.
