Ihatov Festival 2025

2025/8/30~2025/8/31 Hanamaki Kenji Miyazawa Dowa Village   2 Views

Miyazawa Kenji is one of Japan's most famous fairy tale writers and poets.
Every year in Kenji's hometown of Hanamaki, the Ihatov Festival is held, where a diverse range of guests, including creators and artists who have a deep connection with Kenji's work, take part in talks, live performances and video works, allowing people to enjoy connecting with the world of Kenji's work.
The Ihatov Festival was started in 2013 by the late Studio Ghibli director Isao Takahata, who directed a number of works that deeply resonate with the spirit of Miyazawa Kenji, including the animated film Gauche the Cellist, based on an original story by Miyazawa Kenji.
It is held every year around August 27th, Kenji's birthday, and many people gather at the outdoor venue surrounded by greenery at Miyazawa Kenji Fairy Tale Village in Hanamaki City.
