Morioka City Ruins Museum Let's make Jomon pottery
At the Morioka City Ruins Manabukan, we will hold a hands-on event to make pottery.
Observe authentic Jomon pottery from thousands of years ago and try your hand at making pottery yourself.
In the manabu-kan of the ruins, a large number of earthenware excavated from the city are displayed and stored, and you can observe them up close. Why don't you observe these pottery and make pottery like the Jomon people?
〇 Clay uses 1 kilogram of "noyaki pottery clay" per person.
〇Content
- Look carefully at the pottery. Let's sketch the pottery before production.
- Knead the clay well.
- The bottom of the pottery has traces of leaves. Lay leaves under the clay and create on top of it.
- Add a pattern. Just like the Jomon people, they are decorated with clay strings and stationery.
- Write the author's name on the bottom with a spatula.
- Let it dry naturally for about 3 weeks.
〇The firing will be done in the open at a later date.
- After production, it is left to dry naturally for about three weeks at the manabu-kan of the ruins. After that, it is finally dried at a low temperature of about 200 degrees in the electric kiln of the Ruins Manabukan.
- On Thursday, October 12, 5th year of Reiwa, the staff and supporters will burn it in the open fire in the front garden of the Manabukan of the Ruins. As participants making earthenware can observe, please come by all means.
- If open burning is not possible due to the weather, we will use our electric kiln.
- The fired pottery will be handed over to the participants after Friday, October 27, 5th year of Reiwa.
