"Second manuscript: A mountain that was only 1 cm smaller 10,000 years ago" Performance in Morioka
We are one of the billions of lives that will one day sink into the depths of the mantle and disappear.
And the accumulation of them is the size of that mountain today.
Ground movements are repeated, and ash-like snow is about to fall in our world.
When Monte was a child, he called the Children's Science Telephone Consultation during the summer vacation and asked, "If fossils can be found under the soil, was the earth smaller in the past?" Monte doesn't remember the science teacher's answer at that time anymore, but he was depressed knowing that it probably wasn't that kind of thing. Because Monte likes astronomy and was curious about the earth 10,000 years from now. I thought that if the strata continued to pile up like this, I might be able to get close enough to the stars that I love so much that I could reach out and touch the moon. But that dream doesn't seem to come true. Even if Monte lives for 10,000 years. But Monte didn't give up and continued to investigate. And I found out. 10,000 years from now, everything in this world we live in will eventually flow into the ocean trenches, sink into the mantle, and all will be lost. However, the mantle recoils and pushes up the mountain by 1cm. Monte wants to check that 1cm, no matter what.
IWATE AIR/AIR is an artist-in-residence project in which artists stay in Iwate Prefecture and experience the lifestyle, culture, and climate while creating new works, conducting research, and interacting with the local community. In this work, three artists stayed in Miyako City, the easternmost land on Honshu, surrounded by the sea, mountains, and rivers, in February and March 2022. It is a performance that brushed up to this work after a re-stay in November 2019. A theatrical production that deeply incorporates the culture and history of Miyako from the artist's perspective will be performed in Miyako and Morioka.
